Paper Quality Measurement – Past, Present and Future

Welcome to a journey through the dramatic progress of paper quality measurement over the past 100 years and how sheet quality management might evolve in the future, hosted by TAPPI’s Process Control Division.

Quality testing came from tedious manual procedures to large automated test systems and online web inspection. Today, all these tools have become a necessity for meeting stringent demands for sheet quality and production economy.

Our journey begins with a brief visit to the early days of manual judgement of web quality. We will travel on to visit the first online sensors, the arrival of accurate online weight measurement and the evolving of the QCS systems.
