Recent Development In Nanocellulose Research At RISE Webinar

Online Webinar
Tuesday, March 21, 2023 to Tuesday, March 21, 2023

Nanocellulose, barrier, films, coatings, electronics, industrial viable, sustainability

9:00AM - 10:00AM

The seminar will be about the latest nanocellulose development that RISE has taken part in. Both fundamentals and the applied science aspects will be presented. RISE role is to bring the academic development into industry. It will be exemplified how RISE has bridged this gap or are working on doing so. The strategy is to locate key process steps or material properties, which needs to be improved in order to make a certain development industrial viable. In addition, sustainability is very important for RISE. This makes nanocellulose developments highly interesting, but care needs to be taken so that the chemistry used is cleaned and that the material recycling and/or reuse is considered.

Andreas Falls

Andreas Fall is a senior researcher at RISE in the unit ofImage.jpeg Smart Materials. Andreas did his PhD at KTH in the field of colloidal interactions and orientation of nanocellulose particles. He then did two postdocs in the field of porous lightweight nanocellulose materials, first at Stockholm university focusing on structure control and fire retardancy and then at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, designing nanocellulose based wound dressings with controlled release of biomedical components. He is the author of over 30 publications with over 2200 citations and has an H-factor of 18. He also is a patent inventor in filament spinning of nanocellulose (US 10,132,005). At RISE he has been involved at process design and characterization of nanocellulose suspensions and materials. The application areas that he has been investigated include barrier films/coatings for food packages, liquid absorption, and electronics among others. Furthermore, Dr. Fall has strong academic collaborations in the nanocellulose field both within in Sweden and around the world.
