Division Leadership and Service Award
David Loebker
Senior Scientist, Procter & Gamble

Dave is a Senior Scientist at the Procter & Gamble company in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has worked in the pulp and paper industry for over 32 years. He is named as inventor on 28 US patents in the areas of tissue paper product, process, and analytical analysis technologies for P&G.

Dave’s involvement TAPPI began during his undergraduate education at Miami University’s Paper Science and Engineering program. From there, he received a Masters and Ph.D. from the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (which is now part of the Georgia Institute of Technology).

Dave has been a member and leader of the TAPPI Tissue Properties Subcommittee for over 10 years, as well as involvement in other TAPPI committees with a focus on Standardized Test Methods and TIPS. He is also the convenor of the ISO Tissue Test Methods working group (part of ISO TC 6) for the past 9 years, as well as vice chair of the US Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) to ISO TC 6.

Dave has presented and published at TAPPI conferences multiple times over the years on topics related to tissue and towel paper absorbency, flushability, softness related properties, as well as the overall benefits of that TAPPI standards provide to ensure data objectivity, fair trade, and good decision making.

Dave is extremely honored to be the recipient of the 2022 Division Leadership and Service Award from the TAPPI Process and Product Quality Division. I hope to continue my leadership in TAPPI in upcoming years, and to promote the benefits of TAPPI to the industry and its members.

Division Technical Award and Richard S. Hunter Prize
Dennis Crawshaw
Manager Analytical Sciences, International Paper

Dennis Crawshaw is Manager Analytical Sciences at International Paper’s corporate technology center in Loveland, OH. He leads a team of scientists and technicians providing chemical analysis, microscopy analysis, and physical measurements for International Paper’s manufacturing plants and business groups. He has held this position since 2003; previously he was Manager Analytical Sciences at International Paper’s corporate research center in Tuxedo, NY. Dennis has been with International Paper since 1982 after graduating from Miami University (Oxford, OH) with a M.S. in Paper Science & Engineering and a B.A. in Chemistry. At International Paper he has held positions as a Research Associate, Technical Services Engineer, Supervisor Physical Measurements, and Manager Analytical Sciences.

Dennis has been a member of TAPPI since 1982. He is currently a member of the P&PQ Division Council, Quality and Standards Management Committee (QSMC), and Standards Advisory Review Group (SARG). He has served on P&PQ technical committees for many years, and presently chairs the Physical Properties Committee and the Optical Properties Committee. He has served as Working Group Chair for 28 TAPPI standard methods, and participates on 250 TAPPI Standard-Specific Interest Groups (SSIG) to periodically review standards and work items. In 2021 he presented an “Ask The Expert” session for TAPPI members regarding physical properties of paper and paperboard, and their measurement.

Dennis is a President Emeritus of the Paper Science & Engineering Foundation at Miami University, after serving for six years in various roles as a Foundation officer. He continues to support the Foundation as a member of the Facilities Committee.
