Saint-Gobain is one of the world’s largest building materials companies, and manufacturer of high performance solutions. Present in over 67 countries and ever-growing, the company employs the strategy of responsible growth, guided by its purpose, “making the world a better home.” Saint-Gobain has committed to ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions, water withdrawal and discharge, and landfilled waste in its manufacturing facilities. In North America, this commitment is spearheaded by the business units, who have developed multifunctional sustainability teams with the aim of designing an actionable roadmap to achieve the business goals. This presentation details the sustainability programs and activities for the CertainTeed Roofing business unit, including the sustainability roadmap team organization and goals, best practices, and reduction projects.

Saint-Gobain has committed to sustainability targets for 2025, 2030, and finally net-zero carbon 2050. The 2025 goals are traditionally focused on energy, carbon, water discharge, and landfilled waste reduction. The 2030 goals are more aggressive and expand to non-operational improvements such as product stewardship, supply chain, and employee engagement. Site activities include compressed air optimization and reduction, upgrading inefficient equipment, reusing process water, finding alternative outlets for waste materials, and more. CertainTeed Roofing has launched a business-wide Green Team that shares best practices and encourages networking to align all sites to the sustainability objectives.
